The Birmingham House Tour rolls out the welcome mat Sept. 16 at several stunning homes in the Birmingham/Bloomfield area. The public will be able to explore these beauties from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
The 37th annual event showcases a curated selection of private residences, each reflecting unique design styles, exceptional craftsmanship, and inspiring interiors.
Guests will enjoy the chance to gain design inspiration, discover new trends in home decor, and experience the character of different neighborhoods, all while supporting the Birmingham Area Community Foundation.
“Our mission is to strengthen and uplift surrounding communities through grantmaking and mentorship to nonprofits that support education, wellness, and cultural vitality, as well as provide scholarships for local students pursuing education beyond high school,” says Kathie Ninneman, the foundation’s vice president of donor and volunteer relations.
The funds help support established and emerging nonprofit organizations and provide scholarships for students within a 10-mile radius of Birmingham, from Oak Park to Pontiac. “The tour was created by The Community House Association as a fundraiser to raise important revenue,” Ninneman adds. For this year’s event, featuring seven homes, Ninneman says she’s working with “16 amazing tour committee members.” The houses are located in Birmingham, Bloomfield, and Beverly Hills.
A new-construction home on Pemberly Court in Beverly Hills, with architecture by Northville-based Joseph Mosey Architecture and interior design by Heather Duggan of Troy-based Heather Duggan Interiors, will surely get high praises from those on the tour.
The transitional-style beauty is home to a family of five who gets to feel like they’re living in a treehouse, Duggan suggests. “You’re basically up in the trees looking out at treetops, given the grade of the property,” she says. “When you’re in the master bedroom, you’re at the top of the tree line.”
With the Rouge River running alongside the property, the home is quite a stunner. Add in unique light fixtures, an organic neutral feel, and peaceful spaces, and you get a truly relaxing vibe.
“Just off the dining space is what the family calls their ‘Zen room,’ which is the best spot in the house,” Duggan says. “The outdoors is the focus, and there’s no television or screens in that space. It’s just a place to relax.”
Beyond Mosey and Duggan, other contributors to the breathtaking project are builder Town Building Co., based in Royal Oak; Millenium Cabinetry, in Farmington Hills; and Dul Landscape Architecture in Bloomfield Hills.
“The home is just spectacular in person,” Duggan says.
